Based on our extensive experience, we run seminars for parents and their children (the best results are usually seen when both attend together) about effective study habits. Seminars typically cover all of the following areas:

• Emotional and environmental barriers to effective study, and how to overcome them
• The common study techniques which don’t really work, and some that work but you won’t have thought of
• How to create routines which will motivate you to study
• How to manage your time effectively
• How to cope with anxiety and stress

Most of the advice is aimed at students themselves. However, we have found that when parents attend with their children they can then reinforce the messages at home and their benefits are more long-lasting.

The right home environment can often create a situation where students feel they are able to study and are motivated to do so. Conversely, sometimes routines built up over years can get in the way of effective study without us even realising that this is happening. That is where our home environment optimisation can help. During optimisation we will visit your home on a typical school night, observing your routines, habits, interactions and any other factors which may be related to your child’s academic success. Our assessor will be a fly on the wall, observing as unobtrusively as possible in order to better understand the dynamics which occur in your home on a day-to-day basis.

Home environment optimisation will involve several means of gathering information and understanding about your family: from observations of your routines to questionnaires and interviews conducted with family members. A personalised report will be written especially for you and your family, identifying potential barriers to effective study and including bespoke recommendations for creating an environment conducive to academic success.

Home environment optimisations are by definition a bespoke service, tailored to your needs. We have devised a series of packages that meet most families’ needs. Should you need a slightly different service we would be glad to discuss it with you.

Unfortunately due to the current COVID-19 lockdown we have had to cancel our upcoming event, “Supporting your child in secondary school”, which was due to take place on Saturday 2 May at Beecholme Primary School. Full refunds have been issued through Eventbrite to all those who had purchased tickets. We currently plan to run this event at the beginning of the Autumn term to give new Year 7 students the best start.
